Unibor E6000 All-Round Magnetic Drill — Drilling, Tapping & Countersinking in One Machine

The Unibor E6000 is a 1500W professional-grade magnetic drilling machine engineered for contractors and trades professionals who need a single, versatile tool capable of annular cutter drilling, tapping, countersinking, and twist drilling on ferrous metal. With a 3" cutter capacity and 3" depth of cut, it handles demanding structural steel, fabrication, and site drilling tasks without requiring multiple machines. Built around Unibor's proprietary technology suite — including Smart Control, DrillSmart, and LiftShield — the E6000 is designed to protect both the operator and the tooling investment across high-volume production environments. CSA approved and rated at 120V, it is ready for North American job sites straight out of the box.

                                        Part Number E6000

The E6000 distinguishes itself from standard magnetic drills through its integrated Unibor technology suite — Smart Control, DrillSmart, and LiftShield — which actively manages motor and cutter performance rather than relying solely on operator technique. Its multi-function capability (annular cutting, twist drilling, tapping, and countersinking) eliminates the need to swap between separate machines on site, reducing setup time and equipment overhead for contractors working across varied steel fabrication and construction tasks.

                                        DrillSmart Technology

DrillSmart is Unibor's intuitive control technology designed to maximize both machine life and cutter life by optimizing performance during the cut. For contractors running high cutter volumes, this translates directly into lower tooling costs and reduced downtime from premature cutter wear.

                                        Smart Control

The Smart Control system provides intelligent management of the machine's motor and operational parameters. This level of electronic control helps protect the motor under varying load conditions, extending service intervals and reducing the risk of unexpected failures mid-job.

                                        LiftShield

LiftShield is a Unibor safety feature integrated into the E6000's design. It provides an additional layer of operator protection during the drilling cycle, which is particularly valuable when working in overhead, inverted, or confined-space applications where machine control is more demanding.

                                        2-Speed Gearbox with Variable Speed

The 2-speed gearbox allows the operator to select the appropriate output speed for the cutter diameter in use — Gear 1 (100–365 RPM) for larger cutters and Gear 2 (200–600 RPM) for smaller diameters. Variable speed control within each gear range gives further precision, reducing the risk of cutter damage and improving hole quality across different material thicknesses.

Multi-Function Capability: Drilling, Tapping, Countersinking & Twist Drilling

The E6000 handles annular cutter drilling (up to 3" dia.), twist drilling (up to 3/4"), tapping (up to 3/4"), and countersinking (up to 1-3/16") from a single platform. Contractors can complete a full range of hole-making operations on structural steel without switching machines, saving time and reducing the number of tools required on site.

                                        LED Work Light

An integrated LED work light illuminates the cutting zone directly, improving visibility in low-light site conditions such as inside structural members, confined spaces, or poorly lit fabrication areas. Better visibility at the cut point reduces the risk of misaligned holes and rework.

Quick Release Interchangeable Handle & Internal Cabling

The quick release interchangeable handle allows the operator to reposition the handle to suit the working orientation — particularly useful when drilling in tight or awkward positions. Internal cabling keeps the power lead routed cleanly within the machine body, reducing the risk of cable snagging on the workpiece or surrounding structure.

                                        Pre-Operation Checks

                                        1. Ensure the magnet is switched OFF before plugging the machine into the power supply.
                                        2. Inspect all electrical supply cables and extension leads for damage; replace if any damage is found.
                                        3. Check the underside of the magnetic base — it must be clean, flat, and free of damage before every operation.
                                        4. Verify that the workpiece is bare ferrous metal, flat, and at least 1" thick for full magnetic holding force. If the material is thinner than 1", position substitute material under the magnet and workpiece to achieve adequate thickness, or use an alternative secure restraint method.
                                        5. Attach the safety strap (RDC4083) and stationary rings (RDC4082) to a fixed independent feature before activating the machine. Affix stationary rings into the magnet uppermost side hole.
                                        6. Ensure the cutter-retaining screws are tightened securely before starting.

Mounting Cutters (Weldon Shank Annular Cutters)

                                        1. With the machine in the upright position, ensure the Arbor Assembly (CA120) is fully inserted into the Arbor Spindle (RDC4009).
                                        2. Take the appropriate pilot and place it through the hole in the cutter shank.
                                        3. Insert the shank of the cutter into the bore of the Arbor Assembly, ensuring alignment of the two drive flats with the socket screws.
                                        4. Tighten both screws using the hexagon key supplied.
                                        5. Always disconnect the machine from the power source before changing cutters.

Fitting the Chuck (for Twist Drilling and Tapping)

                                        1. Insert RDC4087 (Arbor Shank) into RDC4009 (Arbor Spindle) and ensure a tight fit.
                                        2. Insert RDC4084 (1/2" Chuck) into RDC4087 and ensure a tight fit.
                                        3. To remove the chuck, use RDC4086 (Drift) and reverse the sequence.

                                        Gear Selection

                                        1. Select the appropriate gear for the cutter diameter being used: use Gear 1 (lower speed range: 100–365 RPM) for larger cutters; use Gear 2 (higher speed range: 200–600 RPM) for smaller cutters.
                                        2. Move the slide selector to the Up position for one gear and Down for the other, as indicated on the machine.

                                        Drilling Operation

                                        1. Ensure the coolant bottle contains sufficient cutting oil for the required duration. Refill as required.
                                        2. Occasionally depress the pilot to confirm cutting fluid is being correctly metered.
                                        3. Start the machine following the control panel operation instructions.
                                        4. Apply light pressure when commencing the cut until the cutter is introduced into the work surface; pressure can then be increased sufficiently to load the motor.
                                        5. Do not apply excessive pressure — it does not increase penetration speed and will activate the safety overload protection, stopping the motor. Restart by operating the motor start button.
                                        6. Keep the inside of the cutter clear of swarf, as swarf buildup restricts operating depth.
                                        7. Always ensure the slug from the previous hole has been ejected before commencing the next cut.
                                        8. If a slug sticks in the cutter, move the machine to a flat surface, switch on the magnet, and gently bring the cutter down to contact the surface to straighten and eject the slug.
                                        9. To stop the machine, always use the MOTOR stop button. Do NOT switch off the motor using the MAGNET switch.

                                        Pipe Adapter Kit (Optional)

                                        1. Attach adjustable angle plates (RD3328) with cap screws (RD4325) and washers (RD4205, 4 off each) to the magnet sides — do not tighten yet.
                                        2. Locate the machine on the centerline of the pipe, ensuring the magnet is aligned with the longitudinal axis of the pipe.
                                        3. Switch on the magnet and move the sliding plates down to the outside diameter of the pipe. Tighten the screws on both sides by hand, then verify the full length of the moving plates is touching the pipe at front and back. Fasten the plates securely.
                                        4. Feed the safety strap through the lugs at the front of the housing, around the pipe, and pull tight.
                                        5. When cutting, do not use excessive pressure — allow the cutter to ease into the cutting surface.

                                        Maintenance Schedule

                                        1. Before every operation: Visual check of machine for damage; check magnetic base for flatness and damage; check alignment of the machine.
                                        2. Every operation: Check operation of all machine systems.
                                        3. Weekly (or more frequently if used heavily): Check carbon brush wear — if a brush has worn more than 2/3 of its original length, replace it immediately.
                                        4. Monthly: Check grease levels in gearbox; check armature condition.
                                        5. Apply a small amount of light oil lubricant regularly to the slide and arbor support bearing.
                                        6. Clean brass gib strips and apply light machine oil to wear surfaces during slide adjustment.
                                        7. Always disconnect from the power supply before performing any maintenance work.

                                        Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the maximum cutter diameter the E6000 can accept?
A: The E6000 accepts annular cutters up to 3" in diameter with a 3/4" Weldon shank, with a maximum cutting capacity in 0.2/0.3C steel of 2-3/8" diameter x 3" deep when using the MT2 arbor.

Q: Can the E6000 be used for twist drilling and tapping as well as annular cutting?
A: Yes. The E6000 supports twist drilling up to 3/4" (using the included 1/2" chuck), tapping up to 3/4", and countersinking up to 1-3/16", in addition to annular cutter drilling up to 3".

Q: What is the minimum workpiece thickness for safe magnetic adhesion?
A: The manufacturer specifies a minimum plate thickness of 1" for full magnetic holding force. Material thinner than 1" will progressively reduce magnetic performance. If the workpiece is thinner than 1", substitute material should be positioned under the magnet and workpiece to achieve adequate thickness, or an alternative secure restraint method must be used. The troubleshooting guide also notes that workpieces less than approximately 3.5mm thick will result in insufficient magnetic force.

Q: Can the E6000 be used on a DC power supply?
A: No. The E6000 is suitable only for a single-phase 50–60Hz AC power supply. Using it on a DC supply will cause irreparable damage to the magnet.

Q: What extension cable can be used with the E6000?
A: The machine is factory fitted with a 9-3/4 ft, 3-conductor 14AWG cable. For a 120V supply, the maximum recommended extension cable length is 11-1/2 ft of 3-core x 14AWG. Exceeding this length will result in loss of magnetic traction and reduced motor power.

Q: What does the DrillSmart feature do?
A: DrillSmart is Unibor's proprietary technology designed to maximize both machine life and cutter life by optimizing performance during the drilling cycle. It is an integrated feature of the E6000 and does not require separate setup by the operator.
