The DrillSmart technology actively manages feed rate and motor load to extend both cutter and machine life, while the LiftShield system adds an additional layer of operator protection not found on conventional mag drills.

                                        Key Features & Benefits

                                        Fully Automatic Drilling (Auto Feed)

The E5000 Auto can be set to drill and shut down completely autonomously — once the capstan lever is engaged, the spindle plunges, completes the cut, retracts, and powers off without operator input. This allows one operator to oversee multiple machines simultaneously, significantly increasing throughput on repetitive drilling operations.

                                        DrillSmart Technology

DrillSmart is Unibor's integrated feed-rate management system that optimizes cutting performance to maximize both machine and cutter service life. 1. Ensure the magnet is switched OFF before plugging the machine into the power supply.
                                        2. Clean the underside of the magnet base — it must be flat, clean, and dry before mounting.
                                        3. Position the machine on the workpiece and switch on the magnet to secure it.
                                        4. Attach the safety strap (RDC4083) and stationary rings (RDC4082) to a fixed independent feature before operating. Affix stationary rings into the uppermost side hole of the magnet to reduce potential free movement if the magnet becomes detached.

                                        Cutter Installation

                                        1. Disconnect the machine from the power source before changing cutters.
                                        2. With the machine upright, ensure the Arbor Assembly (CA120) is fully inserted into the Arbor Spindle (RDC4009).
                                        3. Place the appropriate pilot through the hole in the cutter shank. Insert the cutter shank into the bore of the Arbor Assembly, aligning the two drive flats with the socket screws.
                                        4. Tighten both screws securely using the hexagon key before operating.

                                        Gear & Speed Selection

                                        1. Select the appropriate gear using the slide selector: Slide Up or Slide Down as indicated on the machine.
                                        2. Set the electronic speed controller to the correct speed for the cutter diameter BEFORE starting the machine. If the speed controller is adjusted after starting, the auto-feed function will not perform correctly.
                                        3. Refer to the Cutting Speed Selection chart (page 24 of the manual) for recommended speeds by cutter diameter.

                                        Manual Drilling Operation

                                        1. Ensure the coolant bottle contains sufficient cutting oil for the operation. Use only approved cutting fluid — do not use water-diluted cutting oil.
                                        2. Start the machine following the control panel operation instructions.
                                        3. Apply light pressure when commencing the cut until the cutter is introduced into the work surface, then increase pressure sufficiently to load the motor. Do not apply excessive pressure — it does not increase penetration speed and will trigger the safety overload protection.
                                        4. Keep the inside of the cutter clear of swarf, as swarf buildup restricts operating depth.
                                        5. Always switch off the motor using the MOTOR STOP button. Do NOT switch off the motor using the MAGNET switch.
                                        6. Ensure the slug has been ejected from the previous hole before commencing the next cut.

                                        Auto Feed Operation

                                        1. Turn on the mag drill and confirm it is set to the correct speed for the cutter being used.
                                        2. With the unit running, push the capstan lever towards the machine to activate the auto-feed. The spindle will begin to plunge automatically.
                                        3. Once the drilling operation is complete, the spindle will automatically retract until the cutter is clear of the workpiece and the machine will shut off.
                                        4. If the spindle does not retract completely, deactivate auto-feed by pulling the capstan levers to the manual position, manually retract the cutter, then turn the drill off.
                                        5. Note: The auto-feed function is optimized for low-to-medium carbon steels and supports core cutting up to 2" x 2" and twist drilling (1/2"–1" only).

                                        Chuck Fitting

                                        1. Insert RDC4087 (Arbor Shank) into RDC4009 (Arbor Spindle) and ensure a tight fit.
                                        2. Insert RDC4084 (1/2" Chuck) into RDC4087 and ensure a tight fit.
                                        3. To remove the chuck, reverse the sequence using RDC4086 (Drift).

                                        Pipe Adapter Kit Fitting

                                        1. Depending on the pipe diameter, attach adjustable angle plates (RD3328) with cap screws (RD4325) and washers (RD4205, 4 off each) to the magnet sides. Do not fully tighten at this stage.
                                        2. Locate the machine on the centerline of the pipe, ensuring the magnet is aligned with the longitudinal axis of the pipe.
                                        3. Switch on the magnet and move the sliding plates down to the outside diameter of the pipe. Tighten the screws on both sides by hand, then verify the full length of the moving plates contacts the pipe at front and back. Fasten the plates securely.
                                        4. Feed the safety strap through the lugs at the front of the housing, around the pipe, and pull tight.
                                        5. When cutting, do not use excessive pressure — allow the cutter to ease into the cutting surface.

                                        Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can the E5000 Auto be operated manually as well as in auto-feed mode?
A: Yes. The Unibor E5000 Auto can be operated both manually and with the auto-feed function. The auto-feed is activated by pushing the capstan lever towards the machine; pulling the levers back returns the machine to manual operation.

Q: What materials is the auto-feed function optimized for?
A: The auto-feed function has been optimized to work in low-to-medium carbon steels. It supports core cutting up to 2" x 2" and twist drilling in the 1/2"–1" range only.

Q: What is the minimum workpiece thickness for full magnetic holding force?
A: The magnet is rated at 3000 lbs holding force with a minimum plate thickness of 1". Use on material less than 1" thick will progressively reduce magnetic performance. If adequate thickness cannot be achieved, substitute material should be positioned under the magnet and workpiece, or an alternative secure restraint method must be used.

Q: Can the E5000 Auto be used during arc welding operations on the same structure?
A: No. The machine must not be used on the same structure when arc welding is in progress. DC current will earth back through the magnet and cause irreparable damage to the unit.

Q: What extension cable length is permitted for the E5000 Auto on a 120V supply?
A: For a 120V supply, the extension cable must not exceed 11-1/2 ft of 3-core x 14AWG. Using a cable of inadequate capacity will result in loss of magnetic traction and reduced motor power.

Q: What cutter shank size does the E5000 Auto accept?
A: The machine accepts cutters with 3/4" diameter Weldon shanks. The arbor bore is MT2.

Q: How should the speed controller be set when using the auto-feed function?
A: The electronic speed controller must be set to the correct speed BEFORE starting the machine. If the speed controller is adjusted after the machine has been started, the automatic function will not perform correctly.
