Fast-setting hydraulic-cement mortar.
SpecPlug is a fast-setting hydraulic cement mortar designed to instantly stop water flow through holes and cracks in concrete and masonry. It expands as it sets without shrinking or oxidizing, ensuring a durable repair.
- Single-component, easy to use by just adding water.
- Expands to form a strong, watertight bond to the substrate.
- Sets in approximately 3-5 minutes, rapidly stopping flowing water.
- Suitable for both vertical and underwater applications.
- Certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for safe contact with potable water.
Application
SpecPlug is suitable for:
- Basement and masonry cracks
- Floor and wall joints
- Manholes and sewer pipes
- Tunnels and swimming pools
- Below-grade foundations
Surface Preparation
- Enlarging Cracks: For best results, enlarge the crack to at least 3/4″ in width and depth, ensuring a square or undercut shape.
- Cleaning: Remove all grease, wax, oil, contaminants, curing compounds, and any weak, contaminated, or deteriorated concrete from the substrate.
- Wetting Surface: Saturate the repair area with water. SpecPlug can cure in the presence of running water, making it ideal for active leaks.
Mixing and Application
-
Mixing SpecPlug:
- Create a putty-like consistency by adding a small amount of clean water to SpecPlug. Aim for a 20%-21% water-to-product ratio by weight.
- Mix only enough material that can be placed within 2 minutes.
-
Application Procedure:
- For vertical and moving-water applications, hold the mixed SpecPlug firmly in place until it sets, typically within about 3 minutes.
- Adjust water temperature to manage the setting time: use hot water and warm material in cold conditions, and cold water in hot conditions.
Curing
- Curing: Keep SpecPlug damp for at least 30 minutes to support curing. Optimal strength is achieved through wet curing for up to 2 days.
